Attendee Tools & Tips

Before accessing CAST 24/7, be sure to read through these tools and tips to make the most out of your experience. You can also watch this how-to video to master the science of navigating the virtual event platform.

Test Your Equipment in Advance

  • Test and check your systemincluding your network connection, device battery life, and speakers prior to joining a session.
  • Check the strength of your internet connection.
  • Web app: Use a computer or a tablet for the best experience while using the web app to access the event platform. It is designed to function on any device with a browser, including Google Chrome (recommended for the best experience), Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge.
  • Mobile app: On the go? Keep in mind that you can also use the STATCAST mobile app to access CAST 24/7 (it looks and functions just like the web version!).

Login Difficulties

  • After enrolling, you will receive a confirmation email from STAT that will have additional conference information, including how to access the event platform. Reach out to stat@statweb.org if you do not receive this information or it gets misplaced.
  • You will need to log in to the event using the email address you used to enroll for CAST 24/7. This email will grant you access to the platform. The first time you log in, you will need to set up a password and your profile. Need to reset your password? Click "Forgot Password" on the login screen after entering your email address.
  • CAST21 attendee? Your login information will match what you used for the CAST21 mobile app. You can click "Forgot Password" to reset your password if needed.

Troubleshoot Technical Difficulties

Using the web app?

  • See an Update Available notification? This means we updated something on the backend to improve your CAST 24/7 experience. Go ahead and click on the notification between sessions to ensure you're seeing up-to-date offerings in the platform. The platform will reload, but you'll be back to what you were doing in a snap.
  • If there is a problem with your web browser's cache and cookies, try logging in using the Incognito feature (which usually ignores all your stored cache and cookies). If logging as Incognito works, you might need to clear your browser's cache and cookies to be able to log in from a normal window again. Every browser has a different way to clear cache and cookies, so you will have to check how to do this depending on what you are using.
  • If you are using an uncommon browser, it might not be supported by the CAST virtual event platform. If this is the case, try logging in using another browser.
  • Make sure that "JavaScript" and "Accept Cookies" are enabled/allowed in your browser. If you are using Google Chrome as your browser, go to "Settings > Privacy and security >Site Settings > Cookies and site data" to enable the "Allow sites to save and read cookie data" option and disable the "Keep local data only until you quit your browser" and "Block third-party cookies" options.
  • Ad blockers and antivirus/firewall software sometimes automatically block certain sites out of minor suspicions, and the webpage following the CAST virtual event platform's login screen might be blocked. If you think there might be a problem with your antivirus or firewall, try logging in using a different device and adding app.socio.events as a trusted website in your antivirus and firewall settings.

Using the mobile app?

  • If you attended CAST21 in person and used the mobile app, you may need to know how to switch between events. If you’re seeing CAST21 at the top of your mobile app screen and sessions from November, click the exit button in the top left of the screen to switch events and click yes when prompted. Then, from the app’s main screen, select the CAST 24/7 event.
  • Make sure you are viewing the most up-to-date app information each day. Click the refresh button in the top right corner to manually reload the app to ensure you're seeing the most up-to-date session times and offerings.

Seek Video-Buffering Solutions

  • The CAST virtual event platform may require a higher amount of bandwidth to function, so some WiFi connections may be spotty.
  • If your video is buffering or you are experiencing technical issues—such as 404 error pages or video playbacks and live chat disconnect within the virtual event platform—try logging in again using a different internet browser such as Safari or Microsoft Edge, check your WiFi connectivity, or disconnect from a VPN (if applicable) and log in again.

Control Your Environment as Best You Can

  • Mute other devices that might interfere with your computer audio.
  • Create a learning-conducive environment by eliminating as many distractions as possible, closing out of other tabs and muting notifications.
  • Prepare your space with anything you may need during the virtual program (appropriate chargers, note-taking materials, water, etc.).

Engage With the Event Platform!

  • Use the chat feature: Whether broadcast or on demand, many sessions will have an electronic chat feature enabled to encourage engagement with the presenter and other attendees. Please share questions and comments via this chat to connect with and learn from your peers.
  • Share on the event's social wall: Share your viewing setup or your favorite session on the event platforms virtual wall!
  • Rate sessions: At the top of a session's listing, you can click "Rate Now" to provide a star rating and/or share your feelings about the session you just watched. Rate as yourself or anonymously, and let STAT and presenters know how you feel about session content.
