Hotel Scam Alert

In past years, STAT has been alerted to telemarketing housing scams targeting CAST exhibitors. Please be aware that STAT does not engage in telemarketing for hotel or travel services. Under no circumstances will a STAT representative contact you directly in any manner regarding housing. If you enter into an agreement for a hotel reservation outside of the official CAST room block, you do so at your own risk.

Large conferences such as CAST are often targeted by unscrupulous third parties purporting to represent the presenting entity (in this case, STAT). In some cases, the third party might even illegally use our logo to imply affiliation. These “room poachers” claim to offer cut-rate housing or suggest the actual room block is sold out in order to secure your credit card information. The third party then runs booking fees and other charges for reservations that do not exist.

If you are contacted by a third party offering discounted hotel rates, please notify stat@statweb.org immediately.
