A bison represents respect, for it gave itself to the people in order for them to survive. Education is now our bison, we need an education to survive in these modern times.
In this piece, the bison represents SACNAS, a community dedicated to supporting students on their journey toward higher education. Just as the bison once provided for those in need, SACNAS offers vital resources and a strong support system to help students thrive.
The design draws inspiration from the Ohio State Coat of Arms, paying homage to the land and its agricultural heritage — a nod to the prairies that were once home to roaming buffalo. The inclusion of Ohio’s state symbols — the deer, cardinal, buckeye tree, and carnation — further grounds the artwork in place and identity.
The bison entering this scene is SACNAS roaming onto the land of Ohio and bringing itself to offer support to the students who need it.
Can you spot the hidden outline of Ohio and the SACNAS logo?
