Take your 2024 NDiSTEM conference experience out of the convention center and into the local community of Phoenix and beyond. Arizona State University is delighted to offer conference attendees the following field trips. Learn more about these events and sign up before space runs out! Field trips marked as "closed" have reached their capacity and are no longer accepting sign-ups.

CLOSED: Critical Perspectives on Critical Minerals
Boyce Thompson Arboretum & ASU Tempe campus

Located within the traditional homelands of the Akimel O’odham, the Tohono O’odham, Apache, Yavapai, and Pascua Yaqui Peoples, Boyce Thompson Arboretum is Arizona’s oldest and largest botanical garden, featuring desert plants from around the world. Join us for an easy-to-moderate walking tour of the arboretum to learn about the local geologic history of this area, the diverse uses of Earth materials by different communities through time, and the connections between these histories and contemporary environmental issues related to mining and museums/arboretums from the perspectives of Indigenous Peoples and earth scientists.
After lunch, we will travel to the ASU Tempe campus to experience an immersive 3D show at the Marston Theater, followed by a group discussion.

CLOSED: Cultural Tour of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Wetlands

Sign-ups for this field trip have closed. This hands-on field trip begins with an overview of the rich significance of the wetlands, and their crucial role in the region's heritage and future from a SRPMIC guide. From there, you’ll partake in meaningful conservation work. Activities may include spreading gravel along trails, trimming trees, rock painting, removing invasive plant species, planting in the pollinator garden, installing plant cages, and creating check dams. Tools, gloves and water will be provided.
After a morning of conservation, we’ll head to the ASU Tempe campus for lunch and a tour of the Walton Center and the Global Futures Labs. Please bring water and wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.

Dreamscape Learn is a collaborative venture between Dreamscape Immersive and Arizona State University, merging the most advanced pedagogy with the entertainment industry’s best emotional storytelling. Dreamscape Learn redefines how we teach and learn in the 21st century, while aiming to eliminate student learning gaps.
Get ready to experience the totally immersive virtual reality and XR technologies ASU uses for STEM courses and degree programs. Attendees will enjoy lunch and tour the ASU Tempe campus before heading back to the Phoenix Convention Center.

Explore ASU’s Labriola National American Indian Data Center, an Indigenous-led library center where students and community members can celebrate and critically engage with American Indian and Indigenous scholarly works and creative writing. Engage with experts to learn about the preservation of Indigenous languages, cultures, and histories, and discover how the Labriola Center fosters collaboration between scholars, students, and Native communities.
After visiting the center, attendees will enjoy a cultural lunch prepared by The Rez Eatery and partake in a discussion with experts about Indigenous-led research before heading back to the Phoenix Convention Center.
