HALF-DAY TRAINING: COMMUNICATING THE ACQUISITION NEED: RFIS AND COMPATIBILITY STATEMENTS | IN-PERSON ONLY
Sunday, December 4 | 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM EST

Join this fast-paced workshop to write and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) in teams. You’ll leave ready to tackle the market research process with a new perspective on communicating across the table. Have you ever received a solicitation and wondered if the potential sellers were responding to the same need you thought you communicated? Why do buyers and sellers sometimes end up being so far off in their perception of the requirement? Enter the need for RFIs and seller capability statements, a critical and sometimes overlooked part of market research and acquisition planning. Buyers may skip RFIs to speed up the process, however, the result is usually the opposite—months or years and unintended costs are added trying to retrofit the requirements statement to the actual need. In this workshop, you’ll practice getting this process right from the start! Government and industry will work together to develop RFI statements from the buyer’s perspective and play a seller responding to an RFI with a capability statement. You’ll see how effective your RFI was in real-time based on how well seller groups were able to respond and get real-time feedback from buyers on how well your seller capability statement addressed the RFI.

Participants are invited to stay for lunch with NCMA leadership after the training and stay for the Winter Chapter Leader Summit following lunch.

ALL-DAY TRAINING #2: EVALUATING AND NEGOTIATING CONTRACTUAL RISK | IN-PERSON ONLY

Wednesday, December 7, 2022 | 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM EST

Negotiating good business deals requires quick communication, swiftly weighing risk and proposing “good enough” alternatives that both parties can live with. While clauses can be debated ad nauseum, contract managers must get in the weeds and sort out complex interests between two parties quickly. In this practical workshop, participants will discuss the clauses that are usually the sticking points in their negotiations, and practice working in buyer and seller teams to assess risk and propose clause revisions and alternatives, present risk assessments to leadership and get to the best deal possible. This high-energy workshop draws lessons and parallels to the show Yellowstone – whether you work in an office or on the wild frontier, you’ll enjoy practicing risk and negotiation skills in this engaging format.
