To regulate employee behaviour, organizations produce a wide variety of IG Policies. Too often, though, these documents are long and confusing and written in a way that sounds like angry parents yelling at naughty children. Getting compliance under these conditions is an uphill battle.

Pre-Conference Workshop: Soup to Nuts-Everything You Wanted to Know about Developing a Records Retention Schedule (RSS) (Full Day)

Many aspects of developing an RRS do not appear in the literature. This session will cover lessons learned in reality as well as those that are traditionally discussed: How to Begin - know the organization's schedule, sample communications, developing RRS project management materials (developing work schedules, whom to contact for data gathering, types of data gathering, keeping track of responses, first draft comments tracking, etc.), how to develop record series, elements to include on the RRS, citations - legal requirements, obtaining approvals, issuance and implementation. In addition defensible disposition and components of a legally acceptable records retention program will be presented. Attendees will learn the difference between a Records Retention Schedule and a Records Retention Program.
Pre-Conference Workshop: Professional Development for the Information Professional (Half Day)
Sunday, October 8 - 1:00pm - 5:00pm
In this interactive workshop, we'll present a framework for professional development. We'll briefly review the various records and information management bodies of knowledge. We'll compare and contrast a number of different learning options available today including conferences, certifications, certificates, and microlearning, and share information about specific programs, providers, and options for financing professional development. The bulk of the workshop will be spent on attendees using a professional development matrix to plan their learning journey based on their personal career roadmap. Attendees will also help to develop a list of professional development resources and sources. Attendees will receive a copy of the professional development matrix to continue their own individual plans and the list of resources they developed.
ARMA Volunteer Leadership Training (Half Day)

Volunteer Leadership Training is an interactive training program for current and future ARMA chapter and volunteer leaders. This program provides volunteers the opportunity to learn and practice skills to support them in their roles, enhance their leadership skills, and build their networks.
