As we prepare for APTA's 2023 TRANSform and EXPO in Orlando, APTA continues to adhere to its long-standing principle of designing events where all members and attendees feel safe, valued, and welcome. APTA has a strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in all we do, as detailed in our DEI policy statement. We are proud of our ongoing efforts to support and celebrate the unique attributes and perspectives of our individual members.
Attendees can expect the same timely programing, respectful code of conduct, passionate focus DEI issues, and fierce commitment to a fair and inclusive atmosphere that are essential elements at every APTA conference, seminar, and workshop. Some of those highlights include:
APTA is partnering with transit, business, and community leaders in Orlando to ensure every aspect of this event will proudly and openly model our association’s values. These partners are working hard to ensure that every visitor to Orlando and Orange Country feel safe and welcome in the region.
Orlando, Orange County and the surrounding areas have a rich history steeped in diversity and inclusion. Orange County is home to the historic town of Eatonville (one of the first self-governing, all-Black municipalities in the U.S.), the much-celebrated Gay Days, one of the country's most robust Hispanic and Latino communities, and vibrant AAPI communities, all of which have influenced local culture and history.
In a video message to APTA attendees, Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings said, "Our residents proudly represent a broad diaspora of cultures, which makes us stronger as a society. We take pride in living in a vibrant community where all individuals and organizations are treated with dignity and respect. Please be assured that when you visit Orange County, we are a region that prioritizes the safety of all residents and has zero tolerance of violence, discrimination and harassment."
VisitOrlando is also working closely with local chambers to reinforce Orlando as a welcoming and inclusive destination and recently released this joint statement, "The African American Chamber of Commerce Central Florida, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Metro Orlando and Visit Orlando, are united in our commitment to continue the collaboration and support of all businesses and individuals that embrace diversity and inclusivity in our community and beyond. By working closely together, we aim to educate and inform visitors about the vibrant Central Florida minority and LGBTQ+ business community. We support and encourage travel to the Central Florida region we call home and the continued support of our hard-working small, minority and LGBTQ+ owned businesses."
