Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

As we prepare for the 2023 TRANSform and EXPO in Florida this fall, APTA continues to adhere to its long-standing principle of designing events where all members and attendees feel safe, valued, and welcome.

Attendees can expect the same timely programing, respectful code of conduct, passionate focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) issues, and fierce commitment to a fair and inclusive atmosphere that are essential elements at every APTA conference, seminar, and workshop.

APTA has a strong commitment to advancing DEI in all we do, as detailed in our DEI policy statement. We are proud of our ongoing efforts to support and celebrate the unique attributes and perspectives of our individual members. These efforts include:

  • Creation of APTA’s Diversity & Inclusion Council and Board adoption of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy in 2017.
  • Announcement of the Racial Equity Action Plan in 2021 followed by the launch of the Racial Equity Commitments Pilot Program the following year.
  • DEI education sessions at all APTA events and an online DEI Resource Hub and Equity Assessment Tools.
  • A dedicated series of monthly webinars (called Kaleidoscope) on critical equity and inclusion topics.
  • Expanded communications tools and resources for APTA members with disabilities and special needs.
  • Launch of APTA’s “We All Belong” campaign this past March to actively prevent harassment.

APTA is currently partnering with transit, business, and community leaders in Orlando to ensure every aspect of the 2023 annual meeting, including some new offerings, will proudly and openly model our association’s values.

We look forward to seeing you in Orlando this October for what will be an exceptional gathering that will set a new standard for our industry and others.
