Routed in History: Bus Shelter Murals Tour
Kick off the conference this Sunday, October 9th by joining Metro staff, the Black Heritage Society of Washington, RieImagine Solutions LLC, local activists and artists as we tour and learn about the history of Seattle’s Central District, that was first home Seattle’s Jewish, then Japanese, and eventually Black communities for much of the last century. We will celebrate the history of African Americans in Seattle’s Central District—memories now on display throughout the heart of the historic neighborhoods—at 7 bus shelters showcasing 40 photo murals recognizing the history and living legacy of African Americans in this community. In between transit stops and over a lunch at local Black-owned restaurant, we will discuss transit’s role in acknowledging our past as a critical part of creating a more equitable future, as well as community-driven approaches to combat gentrification.
This tour will meet on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 12:00pm at the NW African American Museum (2300 S. Massachusetts St., Seattle, WA 98144). A private Metro coach will take tour participants to 7 stops throughout Seattle’s Central District, with a few minutes at each stop to deboard and view the artwork. The tour will end with a 1:00pm dutch-treat lunch at Communion Restaurant and Bar (2350 E. Union St., Seattle, WA 98122). New Technologies to Expedite Capital Project Delivery
Major capital projects take SO long to implement. This is a major challenge to our industry’s efficient use of new federal funding. One way to speed project implementation is through new technologies that can reduce the cost, delays and risk that we so often confront today. This session will include discussion of several new technologies that are changing how we implement work – from better mapping of underground utilities to optimizing the use of outages along rail corridors to visual-based construction and inspection technology.

Bus Fleets and Grid Power: Preparing For Full Electrification
We're not at the pilot stage any more - bus fleets are planning for large-scale electrification. Agencies adopting battery buses want to understand the grid power picture for a large battery-powered fleet. Come to this session to hear directly from the electric power companies themselves on transit agencies' big questions about grid power: How are they preparing the grid for the fully electric bus fleet of the future? How can you work with them to help manage costs? And what happens when the power goes out?
