From Crisis to Innovation: The I-95 Rebuild Story
Get ready to kick-start APTAtech in Philadelphia! Join industry peers for two and a half days packed with learning and networking. The opening session will feature APTA leadership and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), setting the stage for the exciting content ahead. Followed by the keynote presentation: From Crisis to Innovation: The I-95 Rebuild Story.
On June 11, 2023, miles of Interstate-95 in Philadelphia were shut down indefinitely in both directions due to bridge damage caused by extreme heat from a crash involving a gasoline tanker. The incident drew national attention, given the corridor's importance to national and regional commerce and connectivity, and the risk of an extended closure. The swift construction of a temporary road enabled traffic to resume on June 23, less than two-weeks after the incident, with permanent lanes in both directions open in early November. All the while, SEPTA stepped-up in its role in moving people by running additional train service in the corridor, and in offering Ambassadors and Key Card sign ups in the stations in the I-95 travelshed. Presentations from persons centrally involved in the response will address collaboration between the public and private sectors, how a 24-7 work plan was invoked, and how innovative ideas were applied in achieving these remarkable outcomes. Innovations in Transit: Fleet Management, Navigation, and Enforcement
This session highlights innovations and the potential for technology to improve transit management, navigation, and enforcement. SEPTA's fleet-wide APC installation program provides insight into understanding and managing transit networks. In-vehicle turn-by-turn navigation during detours has been shown to be effective in providing navigational guidance to bus operators, as demonstrated in a case study. Automated bus lane enforcement in NYC has also been implemented to improve transit efficiency.

Machine Learning, Digitization, and Data Analytics for Asset Management
Asset management is the process of planning, operating, maintaining, and renewing physical assets such as buildings, bridges, roads, water systems, and tunnels. It is a complex and challenging task that requires balancing the competing demands of service quality, safety, cost, and environmental impact. In this document, we present three abstracts that showcase how machine learning, digitization, and data analytics can enhance asset management practices and outcomes.
