Using Microtransit Services to fill System Gaps and Feed Transit Trunklines
Microtransit planning is an access strategy, not a mode choice. Effective microtransit is designed to solve specific first-mile last mile and coverage gaps, not to compete with fixed routes. Clear service roles and alignment with frequent transit are essential to extending access without increasing complexity or cost. This session examines how localities and transit agencies are using technology platforms, real-time data, and carefully planned microtransit services to modernize service delivery and expand access beyond fixed routes. Drawing on lessons from microtransit planning efforts, including service design, integration with fixed-route networks, and customer communication strategies, the session highlights how on-demand services can address first-mile last mile gaps without adding complexity to the rider experience.
Using real-world examples from agencies such as King County Metro, CapMetro Austin and Miami-Dade, the discussion explores how integrated trip planning, unified payment systems, and data-driven incentives improve reliability, reduce uncertainty, and make new services feel like a natural extension of the existing network. A Broader Lens: Focusing On Innovative Programs, Perspectives, & People
The APTA Strategic Engagement Council is committed to highlighting the full array of perspectives while also featuring new voices at Mobility, Rail, and Transform. In this inaugural session, discover how digital stories help to engage the riding public and build trust. Behind every route, on every rail line, and on every ride, there is a story worth telling. Agencies using transparency as a powerful tool will share how they engage the public using humor and heartfelt messages to turn safety and service updates into memorable and shareable content that riders will repost. Organizations are also creating their own in-house apps to help drive sustained public adoption while building internal self-reliance. Find out why every organization needs an app to own the rider's experience via storytelling while operationalizing technology as an extension of service.

The Real Cost of Scaling AV in Transit
Everyone is talking about automated transit—but what does it really take to move beyond pilots? This session will explore lessons learned from real-world AV deployments, including operational challenges, maintenance realities, and how agencies are adapting in practice. Panelists will also discuss funding strategies, from early-stage pilots to scalable, systemwide deployment, highlighting federal support, public-private partnerships, and emerging funding models needed to advance AV in public transportation.

Engaging Riders with Disabilities Early and Often
True transit accessibility is not achieved through
isolated projects or compliance checklists—it requires leadership, culture, and coordination across every function of a transit organization. From executive decision-making and frontline operations to planning, design, construction, and day-to-day service delivery, accessibility must be embedded system-wide to be effective and sustainable. This session brings together two critical and complementary perspectives on accessibility: cultivating strong internal leadership and advocacy and integrating accessibility seamlessly across the full lifecycle of transit infrastructure and services. Participants will explore how agencies can move beyond siloed approaches and instead create organizational alignment that ensures accessibility is considered at every stage—policy, planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance. Securing the Future of Mobility: Cyber Readiness Across Transit Agencies
As transit agencies expand their use of digital platforms, connected infrastructure, and data-driven tools, cybersecurity has become inseparable from safe, reliable mobility. Many agencies have established foundational protections such as layered defenses and cybersecurity awareness training, but gaps remain in advanced threat monitoring, incident response planning, and routine policy maintenance. This innovation station will help transit agencies enhance cybersecurity readiness and support resilient, safe, and equitable mobility networks. Actionable insights, peer comparisons, and leading practices will be offered. Information about the APTAU customer-built on-line cybersecurity training course for transit employees developed with cybers leaders to meet our industry's needs will be presented.

Designing Usability and Accessibility into Mobility Technologies
As public transit agencies accelerate digital transformation, technology must do more than innovate — it must serve. This session explores how smart technology can simultaneously enhance rider experience and ensure equitable access across all digital touchpoints.
This session will focus on two concepts: usability and accessibility. When both are designed into an agency’s website, mobile apps, automated systems, and other tools and technologies, riders have an easier time utilizing all transit services with ease and confidence. Attendees will examine how thoughtful design choices reduce friction, support impaired and disabled riders, and create more intuitive, reliable journeys. Attendees will also learn about the ADA’s new digital accessibility requirements, and practical strategies for assessing and improving the accessibility of their websites, mobile apps, and other public-facing digital assets. Together, these perspectives highlight how accessibility and usability are complementary — and essential — pillars of inclusive transit. Attendees will leave with practical insights on building technology ecosystems that are efficient, intuitive, and accessible, so that all may ride. Stronger Together: Aligning the Industry on Bus Costs, Contracts, and Competitiveness
The bus industry is navigating multiple pressures at once. APTA’s Bus Manufacturing Task Forces 1.0 and 2.0 recommendations offer a consensus path to reduce cost and complexity through standardized commercial terms and vehicle specifications. This session brings the bus manufacturing industry and transit agencies together with a clear message: keeping the domestic bus manufacturing ecosystem viable requires alignment.
Panelists will discuss how the industry can work together to modernize commercial terms, build in the flexibility that today's economic environment demands, and create a procurement framework that protects agencies, sustains suppliers, and strengthens the case for continued federal investment in American bus manufacturing.
