CapMetro’s Unique First/Last Mile Tour
SOLD OUT
Take public transportation like a true Austinite! For an afternoon, you’ll learn how people utilize our microtransit and on-demand options to either help them in their first or last mile on their commute, or to connect them to places in their neighborhood.
In 2024, MetroBike rebranded to CapMetro Bikeshare with an all-new electrified fleet, as well as new docking stations and a new app. Today, the agency is preparing to expand this service across town, but right now, the agency has 73 stations and more than 450 bikes. On this tour, attendees will be able to check out a bike of their own and take it from Downtown Station to Plaza Saltillo Station and our Headquarters via the Red Line Trail, which is a unique, planned trail network that follows our commuter rail line. At our Headquarters, attendees will take CapMetro Pickup, another growing on-demand service in the Central Texas region, to the Bikeshare Facility. You’ll be able to check out a behind-the scenes look at the operations and maintenance for the system before taking Rapid to the Mueller Development and back downtown. By taking three different modes, you’ll travel like a local to get around some of the busiest places in town. Please note: There is a portion of biking and walking on this tour, so please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes. A helmet is also required to ride a bike and will be provided to you. Tour Capacity: 10 participants

CapMetro’s Rapid Expansion Tour
SOLD OUT
Come take a look at CapMetro’s newest Rapid routes! The two new Rapid routes, Expo Center and Pleasant Valley, are funded through Project Connect, a voter-approved initiative to transform the region’s public transportation, and through millions in grant funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
These routes officially opened to the public in February 2025 with an initial service level, and the work is far from over. From there, you’ll transfer onto the Rapid 800 Pleasant Valley to our Headquarters to check out our new infrastructure that charges our electric vehicles. Tour Capacity: 15 participants

Improving CapMetro’s North Maintenance Facility and More Capital Projects Tour
SOLD OUT
Ever been curious about an autonomous bus? Or what about a solar canopy used to charge electric buses? This tour will provide insight in both those areas! CapMetro was awarded nearly $1 million in grant funding from the FTA for vehicle automation for bus yard operations. In partnership with external contractors, CapMetro is now testing out new technology at our North Operations and Maintenance Facility and you can get a firsthand look at what the progress looks like.
This is far from the only capital project happening in the agency, though. On this tour, you’ll also take a look at a major investment to install a brand new overhead solar collection system that will charge CapMetro’s electric bus fleet and the expansion of our rail maintenance facility. All three projects are happening at one facility, providing a unique opportunity for attendees to get an in-depth tour of each, while also learning how staff are managing and balancing these projects, plus several more happening across Central Texas. Tour Capacity: 30 participants

CapMetro’s Red Line to Q2 Stadium Tour
SOLD OUT
Here’s your chance to see one of the newest MLS Stadiums in the country! On this tour, attendees will take CapMetro’s commuter rail, the Red Line, to McKalla Station at Q2 Stadium, the home of Austin FC. McKalla Station was an investment approved by voters in 2020 as part of the larger Project Connect program, which aims to transform the region’s public transportation network. Through a public-private partnership with the Q2 Stadium, it opened in February 2024, coinciding with the first Austin FC season. The station features three station platforms, new double-track, benches, lighting, and wayfinding and communication systems, all of which were built with CapMetro’s sustainability goals in mind.
After a quick tour of the brand-new station, attendees will get an up-close look at Q2 Stadium and its sustainability features with stadium staff before hopping back on the Red Line to go back Downtown. Please Note: This tour includes walking, so please wear comfortable shoes! Tour Capacity: 50 participants
