Recruiting Industry Talent: Unexpected Partners, Strategies, Programs
The workforce is evolving, and talent can be scarce across markets. Organizations must be nimble and creative in attracting and recruiting top talent. This session takes a closer look at a range of successful recruitment strategies including recruiting candidates from outside traditional transit boundaries; guiding new hires through a transit culture; partnering with local judicial systems and related organizations -- creating an apprenticeship program as a preferred alternative to incarceration; partnering with community colleges yielding unexpected perks; surpassing recruitment goals through employee referrals.

Reskilling Your Staff: Are You Ready for Tomorrow?
Traditional expertise is giving way to advanced competencies. Today’s workforce needs to be enabled with new skills and abilities as agencies deploy new vehicles and infrastructures. Are you ready? What is your plan?
Tomorrow’s technicians need to be well versed in next generation approaches to lead and advance our industry as we look at future vehicle fuel and energy sources. To begin, this session examines applications of Zero Emission Vehicle technologies so that today’s technicians are best equipped to navigate the complexities of sophisticated systems that are at the core of vehicle operations and maintenance. This opening discussion addresses skills needed to navigate high-voltage systems, battery management, and sophisticated computer diagnostics. Are agencies investing time and resources to forecast your own future staffing and training needs? This session also lets us hear Cap Metro’s story as Zero Emission Vehicles become part of their fleet. Hear first-hand lessons learned, especially addressing the value and power of collective learning, developing related training, identifying new skills, and how Cap Metro is growing their own internal talent pool. Audience engagement and conversations are encouraged and welcomed during this session. Considering Title VI when Implementing Microtransit
Microtransit has become increasingly popular as an innovative solution to help transit agencies connect more riders, especially in areas where traditional public transportation may not be as effective or cost-efficient. However, understanding the consideration of Title VI requirements in the context of microtransit can be tricky. While Title VI fixed-route requirements may exempt to microtransit services, it remains a valuable tool for ensuring that these services are accessible to all communities. During this panel session, panelists will share how their microtransit programs consider Title VI in its implementation and fare structures.

Steps for Increasing Transit Workforce Participation by People with Disabilities
The journey for creating an industry where people with disabilities are able to obtain meaningful work, gain experience, and thrive, is just beginning. Meanwhile, transit agencies, contractors, and suppliers are in urgent need of qualified people to fill critical roles across the industry. This workshop will feature three programs that are creating space and opportunities for folks with disabilities to thrive. Each of these programs are affordable to launch, relatively easy to scale, and taken together, they offer any agency the opportunity to create a workplace that is more accessible for all.
