These 30-minute meetings will provide an opportunity to engage with members of the Intergovernmental Affairs appointee and career team, discuss key transportation priorities and projects for your community, and strengthen professional connections.

US DOT’s Build America Bureau is offering one-on-one meetings to discuss potential projects and explore financing and technical assistance opportunities. These introductory office hours are available in 30-minute increments Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20, held in the Rayburn Room at the JW Marriott courtesy of APTA. The Bureau was established as US DOT’s go-to organization for federal financing to help communities deliver infrastructure projects. The Bureau’s programs feature technical assistance; low-interest, long-term financing for transportation projects; and best practices in project planning, financing, delivery, and operation. The Bureau helps sponsors navigate the regulatory and financial requirements and provide technical assistance to educate and inform project sponsors seeking to move their projects forward.

The United States will serve as the host for several global spotlight sporting events over the next decade, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup in 11 U.S. cities; the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Los Angeles, CA; and the 2034 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Salt Lake City, UT. Public transportation plays a critical role in moving millions of spectators during mega sporting events.

This session dives into how public transit leaders in host cities, such as Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, and Los Angeles can translate field-level operational needs into compelling Federal policy and investment requests. Panelists will discuss the full scope of requirements tied to mega events, including increased operating costs, temporary and permanent fleet expansion, workforce training, safety and security enhancements, and accessible infrastructure.

Join us for this session featuring key Senate and House Committee staffs discussing the future of Federal transportation policy and Surface Transportation Authorization legislation. Gain insights into legislative priorities for appropriations, transit, and passenger rail for the 119th Congress.

APTA will coordinate in-person visits with your Members of Congress and their staff the afternoon of Tuesday, May 20, between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET.
