Call for Presentations

Take advantage of this outstanding opportunity to be an industry leader and help map the future of the supply chain profession: become an AHRMM20 Speaker.

Prospective speakers are invited to submit abstracts for AHRMM20, a forum for you to share your valuable health care supply chain expertise with your peers.  AHRMM20 will be held July 26 – 29, 2020 in Austin, Texas.  

Focusing on current trends and industry news, this conference is the premier event for health care supply chain professionals to turn to for education and networking while they are advancing their careers and the field.

 

All abstract submissions must meet the proposal requirements outlined below and are due to AHRMM no later than Friday, January 31, 2020 at 11:59 pm Central time. Abstracts submitted after Friday, January 31, 2020, will not be considered. The online submission system must be used. Abstracts submitted via email will not be considered. 

 

Proposal Requirements

Requirements for submitting your proposal via AHRMM’s online Conference Abstract Submission and Speaker Center are below.

Please note: You may create and submit multiple proposals but only a maximum of two can be accepted per presenter.

Speaker Information

All speaker information must to be entered into the online system in order for the abstract to be considered. This also includes information for co-speakers. If you are submitting an abstract for a speaker, please use the speaker's contact information, not your own. All of the information that is submitted will be used in AHRMM20 marketing materials.

Maximum Speakers per format:

  • Learning Labs, Poster Sessions, and Roundtables are limited to one primary speaker and one co-speaker. 

  • Panels are limited to one moderator and three panelists.

  • AHRMM Talks are limited to one speaker.

  • Workshops may have up to three facilitators.  

Please Note: each session submitted by a consultant/vendor must also include at least one provider participant.
 

Title

  • Please limit the session title to 15 words or less

  • Titles should describe the session content

Abstract Description

AHRMM is looking for abstracts that offer objective, innovative, insightful ideas and solutions. What issues are pressing for today and necessary for the future? What experiences can inspire others? What collaborations have you had within your health system? Are there any issues that need to be problem solved as a group? Can you share how to implement new technologies, policies, etc?   Abstracts should include current evidence and speakers are encouraged to address the impact on Cost, Quality and Outcomes (CQO). An outstanding abstract will be consistent with CQO and have practical takeaways for attendees addressing:

  • What was the issue or problem you addressed?

  • What were your goals?

  • What were the barriers you encountered?

  • What was the impact, how did you know you were successful?

  • What were the critical success factors?

  • What lesson did you learn that you want to share?

  • How is it applicable to others in a variety of care settings?


The abstract is a narrative text and is limited to 500 words. Do not use bullets or subtitles, grant support information or references in the abstract.

Do not include presenter or organization names in the abstract description. This is a blinded review, so identifying presenter or organizational information may disqualify your abstract.

You may wish to write the abstract description and outcomes in a word document and then paste the information into the online submission site.  Please check your spelling carefully as this system does not have a spell check function.

Session Formats

  • Learning Lab: a 60-minute breakout session, which must include at least 10 minutes of Q&A.  Presenters are limited to one primary speaker and one co-speaker. 

  • Learning Lab Panel: a 60-minute panel discussion, which must include at least 10 minutes of Q&A. Panels are limited to one moderator and up to three panelists.

  • Poster Session: Share current research, innovative ideas, or mechanisms of recent projects. Display images, data, graphs, and text on a 60” x 42” poster, designed by the presenter. Posters will be on display throughout the conference with two designated times for interaction with attendees.  

  • AHRMM Talks: Similar to Ted Talks, a 10-minute presentation with 5 minutes of Q&A with one presenter, ideal for hot topics, innovative ideas, or best practices.  New to presenting? Try an AHRMM Talk. 

  • NEW for 2020: Learning Lab Workshop: a 60-minute or 120-minute breakout session, which must include guided activities for attendees.  Strong facilitation skills needed for this format. If you would like to submit an abstract as a workshop, you must include a detailed agenda. 

  • NEW Submission Format: Roundtables: a 60-minute interactive discussion with a facilitator leading conversations around best practices, innovative ideas, or other leading topics. Participants will be required to participate and engage in peer learning.  Speaker will need to provide feedback/notes after the session with assistance from a recording. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Please provide three observable and measurable learning outcomes for your abstract using the list of measurable action verbs. Each outcome should have 25 words or less.

  • Please start all of your learning outcomes with “By attending this presentation, the learner will be able to…”

  • Identify the impact on the learner as a result of participating in the presentation. What will the learner be able to do after attending?

  • To clarify the difference – learning objectives describe an intended state (what you hope your learners will take away) and learning outcomes express a present or observed state (what was actually learned).

  • Example of a learning outcome: “By attending this presentation, the learner will be able to discuss three components of thriving succession planning.”

Preference is given to proposals that include Cost, Quality, and Outcomes (CQO) aspects and solution-based presentations on topics pertinent to one of the conference’s seven educational tracks:

  • Clinical Integration

  • Health IT

  • Logistics & Distribution

  • Professional Development

  • Strategic Planning

  • Strategic Sourcing

  • UDI Adoption

Career Level

Indicate the career level that will benefit most from the content that you are presenting. To ensure that we serve the diversity of our attendees, AHRMM’s Annual Conference Committee will look for a range of topics that address the needs of each career level listed here.

Knowledge Level

Indicate if your session will be introductory, intermediate, and advanced. This level will aid attendees in selecting sessions to build their supply chain knowledge.  

Audience Interaction Description

Describe how interactive your session will be and how you will engage the audience.  Details should include any polling questions (hosted through the AHRMM20 mobile app), problem-solving, and Q&A time.  If you are submitting an abstract for a workshop session, submit an agenda of how the session will be organized.  If you are submitting a roundtable session, list the 4-5 questions that will be prepared and addressed to attendees.  
Examples:

  • My session will include 15 minutes of question and answer session and I will encourage participants to ask questions throughout the session instead of waiting until the end. 

  • I plan to speak for 20 minutes followed by 40 minutes of small group interaction to work through a specific problem.  

Session Description for Marketing Materials

Summarize the key points of your abstract. If your abstract is accepted, this summary will be included in AHRMM20 marketing materials to help your audience know why they should attend your session. Attendees are significantly more satisfied when the session description accurately describes the content. Descriptions are limited to 100 words. Please check your spelling carefully.

Attendee Takeaway Tool

Speakers are required to provide attendees with at least one robust takeaway tool so they can better implement next steps within the organization they serve. Speakers must include a short description of their takeaway tool or takeaway tool concept within their abstract. If your abstract is accepted, the tool must be submitted in a PDF format so that it can be uploaded to the AHRMM20 Mobile App.

Samples of takeaway tool(s) include:

  • Benchmarking worksheets (consider excel formats)

  • Case Studies

  • Checklists

  • Forms/templates

  • Sample Reports

  • List of lessons learned (for those experiencing a situation and for those who can plan ahead)

  • Policies and procedures

  • Assessment forms

References

If you have not presented at an AHRMM conference in the last two years, you are required to list three references with their contact information. 

Faculty/Speaker Agreement

This agreement must be signed by all speakers at the time the abstract is submitted in order for your abstract to be considered. Please make sure your co-speaker signs the agreement.

Speaker Registration

Accepted presentations are entitled to one (1) complimentary conference registration for the primary presenter. All co-presenters, AHRMM talk, and poster session presenters receive a $200 discount off the conference registration fee.

“Sales Pitch” presentations focused on a specific product, service, or company will not be accepted. Speakers who present in such a way at an AHRMM Conference will not be permitted to speak again.
