Beyond Bone: Real-World Surgical Strategies for Buccal Plate Integrity, Tissue Stability, and Esthetic Longevity
Oded Bahat, BDS, MSD; Ernest Orphaos, DDS; Peter Wohrle, DMD, MMSc
This advanced surgical focused session takes a practical, data-based look at how implant design and technique influence buccal plate survival, peri-implant tissue stability, and esthetic predictability. Participants will learn how implant macro-geometry, thread design, and surgical technique interact with bone density, vascularity, and cortical plate thickness, translating theory into surgical protocols. The focus is on clinically proven strategies for both immediate and delayed placement, especially in thin or compromised buccal plates. Clinical cases will highlight what works, what fails, and how to recover when the biologic system is pushed beyond its adaptive capacity. Digital planning and restorative collaboration are discussed through the surgical lens, emphasizing workflow efficiency, communication clarity, and reduced re-entry or revision risk.
