Minimizing the risk of soft tissue deficiencies around dental implants is crucial for achieving long-term functional and aesthetic success in implant dentistry. Soft tissue deficiencies can lead to compromised esthetics, increased plaque biofilm accumulation and associated inflammation, and importantly peri-implant diseases, potentially impacting patient satisfaction and implant longevity. This presentation highlights key factors influencing soft tissue health around implants as well as strategies to preserve and enhance peri-implant soft tissues. By understanding and adopting measures in the primordial phase of treatment, clinicians can significantly reduce the risk of soft tissue deficiencies, ensuring improved outcomes associated with implant rehabilitations.

Clinicians should be aware that, although lateral and vertical ridge augmentation procedures have been shown to be effective, they are highly demanding therapies requiring surgical training, experience, and skills. In fact, the reported complication rate is high and varies among different techniques. Commonly observed graft or membrane exposures can result in wound infections and ultimately loss of the graft.

Minimally invasive soft tissue grafting using tunneling procedures have emerged as an effective technique for both periodontal and peri-implant phenotype enhancement to establish optimal tissue health and aesthetics. These techniques minimize the need for large incisions or open flaps where they are not required for implant placement or for the placement of bone grafting materials. The potential advantages of tunneling approaches include improved graft vascularization and graft stabilization, producing excellent tissue volume gains and highly esthetic outcomes. This session will include a didactic review and hands-on implementation of tunneling procedures using VISTA and mucosal access incisions. Procedure techniques, clinical applications, limitations will be presented. Autogenous tissue harvesting methods and indications will also be discussed and contrasted to soft tissue allografts. Suturing materials and techniques will be illustrated for both donor and recipient site management.

A range of grafting techniques, including shell and block augmentation, are available for bone grafting. This session will cover the principles of bone block grafting, using various clinical cases to illustrate key concepts. Special attention will be given to the biological principles of bone block grafting. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own cases for discussion of potential treatment options.

To predictably treat patients with implants in the esthetic zone, a clear and consistent planning sequence is crucial. The presentation will show examples for the workflow for planning including clinical and radiographic examination, photos, esthetic analysis and wax-up/mock-up.

This presentation will focus on the application of digital technologies in maxillary sinus floor elevation surgery. Specifically, I will introduce the use of surgical guides and navigation techniques in maxillary sinus floor elevation, along with real case studies. Additionally, I will present the application and examples of innovative digital technologies developed by our team for maxillary sinus elevation procedures.

Ridge atrophy and ridge defects represent a major clinical challenge in implantology. These conditions can be caused by various factors such as resorption following tooth loss, periodontal disease, or trauma, leading to substantial functional and aesthetic impairments. This presentation will discuss various bone augmentation techniques for treating ridge atrophy and ridge defects.

The choice of an appropriate augmentation procedure should be tailored to the individual patient, considering factors such as the severity and morphology of the defect, anatomical conditions, and general medical aspects. Several options are available for augmentation. Autologous bone grafts are considered the gold standard due to their high success rate, rapid healing, and low complication rate. However, they are more invasive and often require a second surgical site for bone harvesting. They represent a promising option for treating alveolar ridge atrophy and defects, especially in more complex cases.

This master class will cover the current state of research on hard tissue regeneration, practical treatment algorithms, and clinical cases. Additionally, factors influencing decision-making will be discussed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of bone augmentation procedures.

Without a doubt, titanium dental implants have been considered the gold standard for tooth replacement since their introduction in the 1960’s, demonstrating excellent biocompatibility and offering a wide range of treatment options for patients. Nonetheless, reports on possible unwanted reactions to titanium have increased in recent years. Hypersensitivity and allergic reactions, corrosion, Ti particle release and unfavorable esthetic results have been reported. In addition, the emerging trend of a holistic or metal-free approach to dentistry has prompted patients and clinicians to seek for an alternative to titanium and other metals.
 

Zirconia implants have proven to be a reliable alternative to titanium as a means for tooth replacement both in vitro and in vivo. It is clear that zirconia has the same capacity for osseointegration as titanium, as well as the ability to withstand occlusal forces. It’s low affinity to plaque accumulation and increased resistance to peri-implantitis provides a tissue friendly environment that could very well be a game changer in Implant Dentistry, potentially replacing titanium implants in the future.

In contrast, long-term clinical data of Zirconia implants is scarce and limited to one-piece implants. Prosthetic concepts and mechanical parameters for the secure clinical use of Zirconia implants have not yet been established. The bio-mechanical behavior is currently being studied, e.g. the aging behavior of the material, loading capacity before and after loading, bio-corrosion, material composition and its impact on the peri-implant tissue. The knowledge we have acquired to date with Zirconia implants shows a shift of problems but not necessarily a minimization of their quantity, proposing that Zirconia implants today remain a niche product.  

In implant prosthodontics, technique and material selection directly influence clinical outcomes and long- term success. Along with the increasing use of dental implants, a plethora of new technologies and materials, especially ceramics, is entering the market to enhance esthetic results, functional longevity, and precision in a digital workflow. Among the most astonishing evolutions were the developments in implant restorative materials. Questions that arise start with digital impressions: how good are they? What is currently available and how can I keep up with the rapidly changing digital technologies? How do I, based on patients’ needs, select the proper materials for implant-supported restorations needs when we know that the ones with greater esthetics often have poorer physical properties. And most importantly, how can I avoid failures? This presentation will answer such questions and provide an understanding of fundamental physical, optical, and biologic properties of modern CAD/CAM ceramics to best serve our patients. Based on the current scientific evidence, guidelines for material selection and new technologies for ultimate clinical success in esthetic implant therapy, from single implants and abutment design to full-mouth zirconia reconstructions, will be presented and discussed.

Maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) techniques have significantly advanced, prioritizing both predictability and minimal invasiveness to improve patient outcomes. Participants will learn about the latest technological innovations that enhance procedural precision, including dynamic navigation systems, which offer real-time feedback for improved accuracy, and piezosurgery, a minimally invasive method for precise bone cutting while preserving soft tissues. The workshop will also cover advancements in material selection, such as bone grafts, biomaterials and biologics, tailored to optimize healing and long-term stability.

Through simulated exercises, attendees will have the opportunity to apply these techniques in a practical setting, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools and materials.
