Daily Maintenance of Bone and Soft Tissue Utilizing Partial Extraction Therapy and Digital Technology: The Prosthetic Biology Concept
The rapid loss of alveolar bone in the buccal palatal dimension is a known sequelae after tooth extraction. The application of partial extraction therapy (PET) to minimize this has become a viable option and proven solution. The prosthetic phase of treatment is of upmost importance and crucial in the long-term stability of the restoration and soft tissue. Discussed will be how to apply the partial extraction technique when indicated as well as how and why to use digital technology for the prosthetics and biologic benefits. Both single and multiple implant cases will be presented.

Point-counterpoint III: Zirconia Implants. A Real Alternative
Zirconia implants have proven to be a reliable alternative to titanium as a means for tooth replacement both in vitro and in vivo. It is clear that zirconia has the same capacity for osseointegration as titanium, as well as the ability to withstand occlusal forces. Its low affinity to plaque accumulation and increased resistance to peri-implantitis provides a tissue friendly environment that could very well be a game changer in implant dentistry, potentially replacing titanium implants in the future.

LM-7 / Lunch With the Masters - Bone Grafting: Success Strategies and Pitfalls
SOLD OUT
Ridge atrophy and ridge defects represent a major clinical challenge in implantology. These conditions can be caused by various factors such as resorption following tooth loss, periodontal disease, or trauma, leading to substantial functional and aesthetic impairments. This presentation will discuss various bone augmentation techniques for treating ridge atrophy and ridge defects. The choice of an appropriate augmentation procedure should be tailored to the individual patient, considering factors such as the severity and morphology of the defect, anatomical conditions, and general medical aspects. Several options are available for augmentation. Autologous bone grafts are considered the gold standard due to their high success rate, rapid healing, and low complication rate. However, they are more invasive and often require a second surgical site for bone harvesting. They represent a promising option for treating alveolar ridge atrophy and defects, especially in more complex cases. This master class will cover the current state of research on hard tissue regeneration, practical treatment algorithms, and clinical cases. Additionally, factors influencing decision-making will be discussed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of bone augmentation procedures.

Zirconia Implants: A Real Alternative
Without a doubt, titanium dental implants have been considered the gold standard for tooth replacement since their introduction in the 1960’s, demonstrating excellent biocompatibility and offering a wide range of treatment options for patients. Nonetheless, reports on possible unwanted reactions to titanium have increased in recent years. Hypersensitivity and allergic reactions, corrosion, Ti particle release and unfavorable esthetic results have been reported. In addition, the emerging trend of a holistic or metal-free approach to dentistry has prompted patients and clinicians to seek for an alternative to titanium and other metals. Zirconia implants have proven to be a reliable alternative to titanium as a means for tooth replacement both in vitro and in vivo. It is clear that zirconia has the same capacity for osseointegration as titanium, as well as the ability to withstand occlusal forces. It’s low affinity to plaque accumulation and increased resistance to peri-implantitis provides a tissue friendly environment that could very well be a game changer in Implant Dentistry, potentially replacing titanium implants in the future. Minimizing Alveolar Resorption Following Extraction
Tooth extraction can result in varying degrees of alveolar ridge resorption. Reducing alveolar bone resorption through ridge preservation techniques at the time of extraction has demonstrated promising outcomes. Alveolar ridge preservation utilizing membranes and bone grafts is a reliable approach to mitigating alveolar ridge resorption after tooth extraction. Employing a d-PTFE membrane as an open occlusive barrier can prevent epithelial down growth and promote bone regeneration. When using a d-PTFE membrane in an open technique, it is crucial to keep the membrane margin covered to prevent bone graft infection during the early stages. This technique eliminates the need for mucogingival junction translocation or soft tissue grafting during implant placement.

Pathogenesis: Immunoreaction/Proteomics in Peri-implantitis: Titanium Versus Zirconia
The pathogenesis of peri-implantitis is complex. In addition to bacteria, a plethora of immune cells and wear particles can be found adjacent to affected implants. The microbiome in peri-implantitis cases appears to be non-specific and varies from patient to patient. Based on current histological and proteomic analysis of tissue biopsies and sulcus fluid collected during peri-implantitis treatment, cellular composition and protein content appears to depend on a patient’s specific immune system, with no further differences detected between titanium and zirconia implants. Identifying each patient’s unique profile may enable dental professionals to provide more accurate, effective, and personalized treatment, thereby improving clinical outcomes and the quality of life for patients with peri-implant disease.

Risk Factors in Prosthetic Materials
In implant prosthodontics, technique and material selection directly influence clinical outcomes and long- term success. Along with the increasing use of dental implants, a plethora of new technologies and materials, especially ceramics, is entering the market to enhance esthetic results, functional longevity, and precision in a digital workflow. Among the most astonishing evolutions were the developments in implant restorative materials. Questions that arise start with digital impressions: how good are they? What is currently available and how can I keep up with the rapidly changing digital technologies? How do I, based on patients’ needs, select the proper materials for implant-supported restorations needs when we know that the ones with greater esthetics often have poorer physical properties. And most importantly, how can I avoid failures? This presentation will answer such questions and provide an understanding of fundamental physical, optical, and biologic properties of modern CAD/CAM ceramics to best serve our patients. Based on the current scientific evidence, guidelines for material selection and new technologies for ultimate clinical success in esthetic implant therapy, from single implants and abutment design to full-mouth zirconia reconstructions, will be presented and discussed.
